I thought Trump was the best thing for America in this Decade
Trump’s presidency from 2016 to 2020 was a spiritual awakening for me, an epiphany, a personal revelation that woke me from my nativity.
His rhetoric, ideologies, and policies revealed the true nature of his followers, of whom many of them were my friends and partners in ministry.
The battle cry of his followers revealed how they truly think about race and culture in America. Trump’s campaign proved that though we have come a long way in our country, we have so far to go.
Hatred is still our anthem
Division is still our reality
Our system is deceitfully broken.
We are writing the wrongs of the past, but the past still has a death grip on our stagnant progress.
Now I understand what my white friends truly thought of me. I was a “different black.”
I was palatable because I didn’t look or sound like where I come from.
I was refined
I am compassionate and articulate, all of which black men aren’t perceived to be.
I am no longer naïve, and it would not surprise me if my white friends to this day divorced our friendship because of their loyalty to right-wing politics.
I guess you can call me “woke”.
Thank you, Jesus, for waking me up and revealing to me the snakes in the grass. Thank you for revealing to me who I must be cautious of. I praise you for making me proud to be a black man in America.
I appreciate that you used Trump to reveal who he and his followers truly are, allowing me to embrace my own identity.
