Imperfections are not a Disqualification in God’s Eyes

A man wrestling with his own shadow.

2 Corinthians 12:7–9 RSV

And to keep me from being too elated by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me;but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

There is profound truth to extrapolate from the passage. These words are often quoted because it provides a clear perspective about how the grace of God overrules our weakness, and propels us into God’s supernatural strength.

I think that grace is simple and plain, yet simultaneously supernatural and mysterious. It is never difficult, it just needs to be perceived through the lens of a flawed humanity and a perfect, sovereign, and GOOD God.

Like we say in the black church;

ME: “God is good”

YOU: “All the time”

ME: “All the time”

YOU: “God is good”

Otherwise, this simple concept becomes difficult for our wounded souls to grasp.
